JOB DESCRIPTION
This position will be responsible for writing between three and five short articles each week, between 300 and 500 words, on any or all of the following subjects: investment news, market analysis, financial advice and professional enrichment. Ability to write, research and fact-check is highly valued. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, a positive collaborator, and a curious and engaged journalist who takes pride in his or her work.
DUTIES
• Providing coverage of the world of personal finance and/or the stock market that combines intelligence and insight with a unique and readable voice.
• Generating story ideas and accepting assignments, which may include, but are not limited to, analysis, commentary and on-scene journalism.
• Meeting weekly deadlines and responding to edits in a timely fashion to ensure that content remains sophisticated and timely.
• Researching and securing images and media for associated articles.
REQUIREMENTS
• Passionate interest in a variety of financial subjects, news events, topics and media.
• Ability to make technical subjects accessible to a literate, intelligent general audience.
• Amazing attention to detail concerning spelling, fact checking, research, mechanics and accurately quoting sources.
• Web and interactive content experience and know-how. Blogging, editing, writing, internet production, etc.
• Great communication and analytical skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Undergraduate degree in journalism, English, media and/or finance
• Generally well read
• Familiarity and experience with the editorial process (website work or college newspaper ok)
COMPENSATION
Pay is flat rate per article and the position is telecommuting consulting-freelance. A by-line will be included.
